Striking a Balance

I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. On one hand, there is plenty going on in the world today to get outraged about. With Israel and Gaza, Putin trying to activate the Cold War way-back machine, plus all the squabbling and bickering going on stateside, it’s really difficult to know where to begin or where to end. Sometimes following the news can be an exhausting task in and of itself. Yet I feel like I must keep up with it. I’ve always taken a dim view of people seemingly caring more about reality television than what’s happening in the so-called real world. I do understand the temptation to bury oneself in escapist pursuits. I find myself inclined to head that direction at times. Luckily I have someone making sure I don’t totally lose myself. I know there has to be a happy medium somewhere. While I know it isn’t advisable to throw myself headlong completely into following current events, I also don’t want to completely disconnect. I learned the lesson very well in high school and college, that it’s a moral imperative to stay plugged into the world. So my task will be to find that happy medium. I don’t think it’s going to be easy.
